MOMENTS OF LIGHT
A series of structural waffle weaves combined with a looping technique I developed to represent the way light moves through specific spaces in Luis Barragán’s Casa Gilardi in Mexico City. This home was the last project Barragán worked on and really demonstrated his ability to manipulate the environment and transform it. This series focuses on translating particular moments at particular times of the day into woven panels for interiors. The structural shape of the waffle also absorbs sound helping to control the environment.
EMOTIONAL ABSTRACTION
A collection of patterns inspired by Luis Barragán’s Casa Gilardi in Mexico City. In this project Barragán channeled natural light that was carefully released it into the built environment to create color shifts and illusions that shifted at different times of the day and the year. The patterns in this collection focus on capturing the interaction of light and form through movement and color. The fabrics were designed to be curtains in a children’s hospital to create a more playful and child friendly mood in an environment that is typically stressful.
Patterns were developed first with gouache on paper, scanned and manipulated in photoshop and illustrator.
